This paper was around a first stage study that had been undertaken. In Thailand the primary school teachers are expected to teach all subjects (as here) but none of the graduates that take these roles have science as a major in their degree and the government had noticed that the failure in science was high. This study set out to gain background information on what the teachers thought. This was undertaken using survey with three case study schools. The findings were that teachers although having been taught some science themselves did not feel confident with the topic and even with the resources available lacked confidence. Many felt the subject was just too hard. The research is to be used to undertake a second stage where more in depth data will be collected focused on what teachers would like as a development process to support teaching science.
