Designing a learning, teaching and assessment orientation event for new staff – Sally Bradley and Sue Beckingham

This is not University HR induction but a separate induction. So still do a brief slot on HR induction but have a one day one separately in Autumn and Spring if needed.

Use a whole day and provide a brief introduction then have some brief round table discussions with timetabling managers, quality, learning centre staff and student support. Gives new staff a chance to meet people but find out a bit about these centres and roles. They then have a resources session as a treasure hunt and provide both physical paper resources and internet resources so staff know where to find things includes websites and internal information but also KIS, NSS, L & T strategy, UKPSF, QAA, HEA. Lunchtime then is about networking and range of people invited. Inclusive practice is included after lunch but includes a glossary of terms used at the institution which people do not know about and appraisal and peer review, research and scholarship. Then the last session is around the VLE and an introduction.

Evaluation of this has been good staff have found it useful and have contacts they can use.
