This plenary discusses the research vision for Mauritius. There are some main roles, research funding, fostering research in all fields and advising government on policies. Many projects funded but some priorities focus on science and areas such as energy and ocean science. Have 13 research funding schemes and many of these are capacity building.
One of the most successful pieces of work was science in schools which has now enabled a change in policy so that all children have science in their education until they are 16 years old. The projects are focused on developing Mauritius to explore new markets and support and develop the people. Mauritius is the largest ocean country and so most research is on water around island, projects include looking at using desalination plants, seaweed culture and using the ocean for energy.
A very interesting talk about research that is being done in Mauritius and, the opportunities that exist.
