This paper focused on the issue of designing PBL problems and the fact that whilst there is a lot of literature on PBL and how to do it there is little on writing the problems. Yvonne and six others had been working on designing problems and using all the senses so producing these with video and audio too.
Quality problems needed to be:
- authentic
- Engaging
- Deliberately loosely structured
- linked to learning outcomes
- able to cover key concepts
- multidimensional
- cover graduate attributes
- professional and practice focused
There was reference to Hung's (2006/2009) work 3c3r for problem development which is Content, Context, Connection, Researching, Reasoning, Reflecting.
There was then some discussion of problems that had been used in business and some other areas.
